About “A Month in the Country”

A Month in the Country is a play in five acts by Ivan Turgenev, his only well-known work for the theatre. It was originally titled The Student and written in France between 1848 and 1850. The play was first published in 1855 under the title Two Women. It was not performed until 1872, when it was staged as A Month in the Country during a benefit performance for the Moscow actress Ekaterina Vasilyeva, who played the leading role of Natalya Petrovna.
