About “A soldier's play”
A Soldier's Play is a play written by American playwright Charles Fuller. Set on a U.S. Army installation during the segregation era in the South, the play is a loose adaptation of Herman Melville's Billy Budd. It follows the investigation into the murder of a sergeant in an all-black military unit. Through the murder mystery, the play examines the complex emotions of anger and resentment among African Americans, as well as how some have internalized racist attitudes from white society.
