The History of Rome, also known as Ab Urbe Condita, was written in Latin by the Roman historian Titus Livius, or Livy, between 27 and 9 BC. Originally titled Annales, the work covers the history of Rome from the legends of Aeneas and the Trojan refugees to the city's founding in 753 BC, the end of the Roman monarchy in 509 BC, and up to the time of Emperor Augustus. The final event recorded is the death of Drusus in 9 BC. Of the 142 books written, only 35 survive, representing about a quarter of the original work.
