About “Abagar”

Abagar is a breviary written by the Bulgarian Roman Catholic Bishop of Nikopol, Filip Stanislavov, and printed in Rome in 1651. It is considered the first printed book in modern Bulgarian. The text combines modern Bulgarian with Church Slavonic and Serbo-Croatian elements, reflecting the language used by Catholics from Chiprovtsi, Bulgaria, at the time. Unlike other works by Bulgarian Roman Catholics, Abagar was printed in Cyrillic script rather than Latin. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
