About “Al-Risala al-Qushayriyya”
Al-Risala al-Qushayriyya is an eleventh-century Arabic manual of Sufism written by Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri, a Shafi'i–Ash'ari scholar and Sufi master. It was composed during a time of Ash'ari–Mu'tazili conflict in Nishapur under early Seljuk rule. The text aims to present Sufism as a legitimate Islamic science, aligned with Sunni Islam. It combines elements of Islamic hagiography and the Sufi handbook genre into one concise work. The epistle became the most widely distributed Sufi manual in the Islamic world. It has been translated into multiple languages, including English, French, German, Farsi, Turkish, and Urdu. It remains a key text in the study of Islamic mysticism.
