About “Amadís de Gaula”
Amadis de Gaula is a landmark chivalric romance first composed in Spain or Portugal, originating in the late post-Arthurian genre and likely based on French sources. The earliest version may have been written on the Iberian Peninsula in the early 14th century, as it was known to Castilian statesman and poet Pero Lopez de Ayala and poet Pero Ferrus, and is mentioned in a document by Juan Garcia de Castrojeriz dated between 1342 and 1348.
