About “Animal liberation”
Animal Liberation: A New Ethics for Our Treatment of Animals is a 1975 non-fiction book by Peter Singer. It is seen as the foundational text of the animal liberation movement. Singer rejected the concept of rights for animals, instead focusing on their capacity to suffer. He drew on the ideas of Jeremy Bentham, arguing that animals deserve moral consideration because they can experience pain. The book introduced the term "speciesism," a concept coined by Richard D. Ryder, to describe the unjustified discrimination against nonhuman animals. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
