About “Auto-da-Fé”
Auto-da-Fé is a 1935 novel by Elias Canetti. It follows the psychological decline of a book-obsessive academic. The novel was translated into English in 1946 by C. V. Wedgwood. Its first American edition, published in 1947, used the title The Tower of Babel. The title Auto-da-Fé refers to the practice of burning heretics by the Inquisition.
