Batman: The Killing Joke is a 1988 graphic novel by Alan Moore. It features the Joker, who has escaped from Arkham Asylum and aims to prove that the difference between sanity and insanity is minimal. The Joker plans to use Gotham City's police commissioner, Jim Gordon, and his daughter Barbara to demonstrate this point. The story is presented with new coloring by Brian Bolland and is a meditation on the thin line between heroism and villainy. It became a New York Times bestseller.
