About “Battle of the Wines”
The Battle of the Wines, also known as "The Battle of the Blends," is a poem written by Henry d'Andeli in 1224. It recounts a wine tasting organized by the French king Philip Augustus, in which more than 70 wines from France and other parts of Europe, including Cyprus, Spain, and the Mosel region, were sampled. An English priest judged the wines, labeling those he enjoyed as "Celebrated" and those he disliked as "Excommunicated."
