About “Beric the Briton”

Beric, a boy-chief of a British tribe, participates in the insurrection led by Queen Boadicea against the Roman legions. After being captured and trained as a gladiator in Rome, he gains favor by saving a Christian maid in the arena, which leads to his appointment as librarian of the palace and personal protector of Nero; he later escapes, forms a band of outlaws in Calabria, opposes Roman authority, and eventually returns to Britain to become a ruler of his people.
