Bid me to live is a novel set during World War I, centered on the character Julia Ashton, who lives through the London air raids of 1917 and experiences the disintegration of her marriage due to her husband's emotional and sexual shift toward an earlier mistress, Bella. Into her strained existence enters Frederick, a writer whose controversial works on sexuality remain unpublished, and through her eventual escape to Cornwall, Julia gains clarity about her relationship with Frederick and her own identity.
