About “Black Council”
Черная рада, хроника 1663 года is Panteleimon Kulish’s Russian translation of his Ukrainian-language novel Chorna rada, khronika 1663 roku, which was published in St. Petersburg in 1857. The Russian version was also published in Moscow the same year. The novel, titled Black Council, is considered the first Ukrainian-language historical novel written in the style of Walter Scott. It is a historical fiction work based on events from 1663.
