This 1993 novel by Kerstin Ekman follows Annie Raft after she moves to the remote town of Blackwater in northern Sweden to join her lover and stumbles upon a brutal double murder. The murder remains unsolved for twenty years, until the day Annie sees her grown daughter in the arms of the man she once saw leaving the scene of the crime.
