About “Book of Equanimity”
The Book of Equanimity, also known as the Book of Serenity or Book of Composure, was compiled by the Chan Buddhist master Wansong Xingxiu (1166–1246) and first published in 1224. It contains a collection of 100 koans attributed to Hongzhi Zhengjue (1091–1157), along with commentaries by Wansong. This compilation is the only surviving source for Hongzhi's koans. The work is a collection of Chan sayings and teachings, focusing on spiritual insight and meditation. It remains an important text in the study of Chan Buddhism.
