About “Brabantsche Yeesten”
The Brabantsche Yeesten, also known as Gestes de Brabant, is a rhyming chronicle composed in the 14th and 15th centuries in the Middle Dutch language. It contains approximately 46,000 verses and offers a historical account of the Duchy of Brabant. The original five volumes were written by Jan van Boendale of Antwerp. Later, an anonymous writer expanded the work to seven volumes. The text is structured as a poetic history, preserving the cultural and political narrative of the region during that time.
