About “Briefe an Milena”

Letters to Milena is a collection of letters written by Franz Kafka to Milena Jesenská between 1920 and 1923. The letters were first published in German in 1952 under the title Briefe an Milena, edited by Willy Haas, who removed some passages to avoid harming living individuals. The English edition was published in 1953 by Schocken Books, translated by Tania and James Stern. A restored German edition came out in 1986, and a new English translation by Philip Boehm was published in 1990. This version includes some of Milena's letters to Max Brod, four of her essays, and an obituary for Kafka.
