About “Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars”
The Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (CN) is an early astronomical catalogue of nebulae and star clusters, first published in 1786 by William Herschel with the help of his sister, Caroline Herschel. It was later expanded by William Herschel’s son, John Herschel, into the General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (GC) in 1864. These two works served as the foundation for John Louis Emil Dreyer’s New General Catalogue (NGC), published in 1888 and still used by astronomers today.
