City of God is a 1997 semi-autobiographical novel by Paulo Lins, set in Cidade de Deus, a favela in Western Rio de Janeiro. The story follows three young men and their experiences growing up in the community, where Lins himself lived. The novel is the only book published by Lins and took eight years to complete.
