About “Ciyuan”

The Ciyuan, also known as Tz'u-yüan, was the first major Chinese dictionary structured around words rather than individual characters. Published by the Commercial Press, the first edition was released in 1915. The dictionary was reissued in different formats, including a 1931 supplement and a fully revised edition between 1979 and 1984. A third edition was published in 2015 to mark the 100th anniversary of the first publication. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
