About “Cléopâtre captive”
Cléopâtre captive is a five-act tragedy written by Étienne Jodelle. It was first performed on 9 February 1553, presented before King Henri II of France at the Hôtel de Reims and later at the Collège de Boncourt. The play is included in Les Œuvres et meslanges poetiques d'Estienne Jodelle Sieur du Lymodin, published in 1574. Remy Belleau played the role of Cleopatra, and Jean Bastier de La Péruse played Octavian.
