About “Closing time”

Joseph Heller's Closing Time is a sequel to his famous novel Catch-22, featuring many of the same characters as they age and confront the realities of post-World War II America. Published thirty-three years after Catch-22, the novel uses the characters to satirize American society, politics, and culture. Heller's humor remains sharp as he explores themes such as the absurdity of life, the decline of society, and the greed of business and culture. The story follows characters like Yossarian, Milo Minderbinder, and the chaplain, as well as new characters, in a narrative that reflects on the end of an era. Closing Time is both funny and serious, offering a critical and often grotesque reflection of American life.
