About “De balneis Puteolanis”
De balneis Puteolanis is a didactic Latin poem attributed to Peter of Eboli, written in the late twelfth century, likely in 1197. It is also known as De balneis terrae laboris, meaning "The baths of the land of labor." The poem was dedicated to Emperor Henry VI, with the inscription "Cesaris ad laudem." It contains thirty-five epigrams, though one study suggests it may have originally had thirty-nine. The work describes the thermal baths of Pozzuoli in the Campi Flegrei region of Campania, highlighting their therapeutic properties and celebrating their benefits.
