About “De bello civili”
Commentarii de Bello Civili, also known as Bellum Civile, is a historical account written by Julius Caesar about the civil war between himself and Gnaeus Pompeius, along with the Roman Senate. The work is divided into three books and covers events from 49 to 48 BC, beginning with the start of the conflict and ending with Pompey's defeat at the Battle of Pharsalus and his escape to Egypt. This text was written after Caesar's detailed account of his campaigns in Gaul and was followed by other works that described the wars against Pompey's remaining forces in Egypt, North Africa, and Spain. Caesar is widely accepted as the author of Commentarii de Bello Civili, while the three subsequent works are thought to have been written by others who lived during the same time.
