About “Decreto número 255”
The Unification Decree was a political measure adopted by Francisco Franco as Head of State of Nationalist Spain on April 19, 1937. It merged the Falangists and the Carlists into a single party called the Falange Española Tradicionalista y de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional Sindicalista. All other political parties were dissolved, making the FET the only legal party in Nationalist Spain. The decree described the party as a link between the state and society, aiming to establish a totalitarian regime inspired by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. Franco was named the party's leader, with the Junta Política and Consejo Nacional assisting him. Additional decrees later appointed members to the party's executive.
