About “Der Karren”
Der Karren by B. Traven is set in the remote indigenous communities of Chiapas during a period when people were still traded through exchanges or agreements. The story follows Andrés, who transitions from being the son of farm laborers to being owned by a landowner, then a merchant, and finally a commission agent who runs a wagon company transporting goods in the region, and during one of his journeys, he encounters and takes under his protection an indigenous young woman.
