The Diatessaron is the most prominent early gospel harmony, created in the Syriac language by Tatian, an Assyrian early Christian apologist and ascetic. Tatian combined the textual material of the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, into a single coherent narrative of Jesus's life and death, without the aim, unlike most later gospel harmonists, of validating the four separate canonical accounts or showing them free of inconsistency.
