After the Divorce is set in an insular Sardinian society and follows the story of Giovanna and Costantino Ledda, a young couple whose lives are upended when Costantino is wrongly convicted of murdering his uncle and imprisoned. After Costantino’s exoneration and release, Giovanna, now married to Brontu Dejas, resumes an illicit relationship with her former husband, navigating the moral and social consequences of her choices within a community bound by ancient religious traditions and rigid social expectations.
