About “Elle s'appelait Sarah”
Sarah's Key is a historical fiction novel by Tatiana de Rosnay, a Franco-British author. It was first published in French as Elle s'appelait Sarah in September 2006 and later released in English. The story follows two parallel narratives. One centers on Sarah Starzynski, a ten-year-old Jewish girl from Paris, who is arrested with her family during the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup. Before leaving, she locks her four-year-old brother in a cupboard, believing they will return soon. The other narrative follows Julia Jarmond, an American journalist living in Paris, who is assigned to write an article about the roundup for its 60th anniversary. The novel intertwines these stories to explore themes of memory, loss, and survival. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
