About “Enoch Arden”
Enoch Arden is a narrative poem written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson in 1864. It was published during his time as British poet laureate. The story was reportedly suggested to Tennyson by Thomas Woolner. The poem later gave its name to a legal principle, according to which a person who has been missing for a specific number of years may be declared dead for the purposes of remarriage and inheritance. The poem itself is based on a tale that influenced legal terminology. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
