About “Enrico IV”
Henry IV is a play written by Luigi Pirandello in 1921. It premiered at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan on 24 February 1922 and was well received. The play explores themes of madness through a story about a man who believes he is Henry IV, the Holy Roman Emperor. It contains both comic and tragic elements. The work has been translated into English by Tom Stoppard and others. A British production, translated by Stephen Rich, featured Rex Harrison and later opened on Broadway in 1973.
