About “Everything I never told you”
Lydia is dead. But they don't know this yet. The story follows a Chinese American family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. Lydia is the favorite child of Marilyn and James Lee, the middle daughter with her mother's blue eyes and her father's black hair. Her parents have high expectations for her, hoping she will become a doctor and be popular. When Lydia's body is found in a local lake, the family's carefully maintained balance falls apart. James, overwhelmed by guilt, takes a reckless path. Marilyn is determined to find someone to blame. Lydia's older brother, Nathan, suspects the neighborhood bad boy, Jack. The youngest child, Hannah, sees more than others and may know the truth. The novel explores family tensions, cultural divides, and the struggle to understand one another.
