About “Feminity”

Femininity, as explored by Susan Brownmiller, refers to a set of societal strictures, esthetic ideals, and assigned characteristics that govern the lives of half of America. It is described as a powerful esthetic based upon a recognition of powerlessness, demanding constant demonstration of difference through body and gesture, skin and hair, conversation and clothing, and other aspects of woman's presentation.
