Fullmetal Alchemist is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. It was serialized in Square Enix's shōnen manga anthology magazine Monthly Shōnen Gangan from July 2001 to June 2010, and later collected into 27 tankōbon volumes. The story is set in a fictional universe where alchemy is a scientific practice. It follows two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who seek the philosopher's stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to resurrect their mother using alchemy.
