About “Gintama”
Gintama is a Japanese manga series created by Hideaki Sorachi. It was first published in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from December 2003 to September 2018, then in Jump Giga from December 2018 to February 2019, and concluded on the Gintama app in May to June 2019. The series was collected in 77 tankōbon volumes. Set in a fictionalized Edo period where Japan has been invaded by aliens called Amanto, the story follows Gintoki Sakata, a samurai who runs a store called Yorozuya with his friends Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura. They take on various jobs and tasks. Sorachi developed the series after his editor suggested a historical theme, which he combined with science fiction elements to create the characters he wanted.
