About “Handbuch des Schachspiels”
Handbuch des Schachspiels is a chess book first published in 1843 by Tassilo von Heydebrand und der Lasa. It was a detailed reference on the game and one of the most important works on opening theory for many years. The book was originally the project of Paul Rudolf von Bilguer, who was part of the Berlin Chess Club and the group known as the Berlin Pleiades. Bilguer died in 1840, leaving the work incomplete. Von der Lasa finished the project and published it, listing von Bilguer as the sole author. The book included thorough analysis of all known opening variations and a section on the history and literature of chess. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
