About “Heike monogatari”
In late 12th century Japan, the Heike (Taira) clan tried to take the throne but was defeated by the Minamoto clan. This story, based on the Genpei war, was written as an oral history and became the foundation myth of the Kamakura shogunate. It is considered Japan's equivalent to famous epics like the Iliad or the Morte d'Arthur. The Japanese book was compiled before 1330.
