About “Het Gulden Cabinet”
Het Gulden Cabinet vande Edel Vry Schilder-Const is a 17th-century Dutch book written by the Flemish notary and rederijker Cornelis de Bie. It was published in Antwerp in 1662, though it also references 1661 as the publication date. The book contains biographies of artists and panegyrics, along with engraved portraits of 16th- and 17th-century artists from the Habsburg Netherlands. It is an important source of information on the artists it describes and served as a primary reference for later art historians like Arnold Houbraken and Jacob Campo Weyerman.
