About “Holy Fools”

Set in 17th-century France during a period of witch trials, regicide, and religious frenzy, the story follows Juliette, a former actress and rope-dancer, who seeks refuge with her daughter Fleur at the remote abbey of Sainte Marie-de-la-Mer. Under the tutelage of the kindly Abbess, Juliette reinvents herself as Soeur Auguste, but her new life unravels when the new Abbess, Isabelle—an eleven-year-old girl from a corrupt noble family—arrives accompanied by a man from Juliette's past disguised as a cleric.
