In 1946, two brothers and a Jewish girl become entangled in Moscow amid the threat of pogroms. The brothers are later imprisoned in Norlag, a slave-labor camp above the Arctic Circle, where a tryst in the House of Meetings leaves lasting consequences for the three individuals, with the narrator, the sole survivor, enduring the repercussions into the new century.
