About “Huashu”
The Huashu, or The Book of Transformations, is a Daoist classic from 930 CE that focuses on neidan, or internal alchemy, as well as psychological subjectivity and spiritual transformation. According to Poul Andersen, the text is a unique philosophical work from the Five Dynasties period, blending elements of Taoist, Buddhist, and Confucian thought. It has drawn attention for its scientific observations and its focus on epistemological issues. The Huashu had a significant influence during the Song dynasty and later, shaping both Taoist and Confucian metaphysics, and serving as a foundation for alchemical thought.
