I, the Supreme is a 1974 historical novel by exiled Paraguayan author Augusto Roa Bastos. It is a fictionalized account of the nineteenth-century Paraguayan dictator Jose Gaspar Rodriguez de Francia, known as "Dr. Francia," who called himself "El Supremo."
