About “Il-Kantilena”
Il-Kantilena is the oldest known literary text in the Maltese language. Dated to the 15th century, it was discovered in 1966 by the historian Mikiel Fsadni. The poem is attributed to Pietru Caxaro and was recorded by his nephew, Brandano, in a notarial register. It is kept in the Notarial Archives in Valletta.
