Christopher, a seven-year-old boy, moves with his single mother, Kate Reese, to the remote town of Mill Grove, Pennsylvania, after fleeing an abusive relationship. After disappearing for six days and returning from the woods, Christopher claims to have a mission from a voice only he can hear: to build a treehouse in the woods by Christmas or face dire consequences for his mother and the town.
