A 1906 novel by Edward Irenaeus Prime-Stevenson is an early moving story about two gay men who meet and fall in love, ending happily together. The author called it "a little psychological romance." The narrative follows two men who meet by chance at a cafe in Budapest, Hungary. Oswald, a 30-something British aristocrat, and Imre, a 25-year-old Hungarian military officer, are both "insistently masculine types tempered by a love of art." Over several months, they build a friendship that leads to cautious revelations and eventually love.
