About “In the Claws of the GPU”
In the Claws of the GPU is an early eyewitness account of the Soviet Gulag written by Francišak Aljachnovič, a Belarusian playwright and citizen of the Second Polish Republic. After being released from the Gulag and returning to Poland in 1933, he wrote the book in three languages: Belarusian, Polish, and Russian. The Polish version was serialized in the daily Słowo in Wilno in 1934. The Russian version was published in 1934–1935 in the White émigré newspapers Vozrozhdenie in Paris and Nash put' in Harbin, Manchukuo.
