About “Integral Humanism”
Jacques Maritain was a French Catholic philosopher and theologian who wrote more than 60 books. He played a key role in reviving the ideas of Thomas Aquinas for modern times. He also had a significant influence on the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Pope Paul VI honored him by presenting his "Message to Men of Thought and of Science" at the end of Vatican II. The pope had considered making Maritain a lay cardinal but Maritain declined the offer.
