About “Intermezzo”

Peter and Ivan Koubek are brothers with little in common. Peter is a successful Dublin lawyer in his thirties who struggles with sleep and relationships after their father’s death. He is involved with two women—Sylvia, his long-time love, and Naomi, a college student. Ivan, a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player, feels socially awkward and different from his brother. After their father’s death, he meets Margaret, an older woman with her own past, and they grow close quickly. The story follows the brothers as they navigate grief, relationships, and personal growth.
