About “Ishinpō”
Ishinpō is the oldest surviving Japanese medical text. It was completed in 984 by Tamba Yasuyori and consists of 30 volumes. The work draws from a Chinese medical text called Zhubing yuanhou lun, compiled by Chao Yuanfang during the Sui dynasty. Many of the texts referenced in Ishinpō have been lost in China but have survived through their inclusion in this work. Ishinpō is recognized as a national treasure of Japan.
