About “Jammers-Minde”
Jammers Minde, translated as Memoirs of Leonora Christina, is an autobiography written in 1674 by Leonora Christina, daughter of King Christian IV of Denmark and Kirsten Munk. First published in 1869, the work is part of the Danish Culture Canon and regarded as the finest prose from 17th-century Denmark. It offers a partly fictionalized account of her time in captivity, describing prison life with detailed personal observations. The text uses biblical references and black humor, blending the comical with the macabre.
